TCL has been on a roll with tablet releases. The company launched the Nxtpaper 11 Plus with its Nxtpaper 4.0 display in July and followed it up with the Nxtpaper 11 Gen 2 earlier this month. Now, true to recent rumors, the company is finally bringing its latest-gen paper-like display to a smaller and affordable tablet in the form of the Tab 8 Nxtpaper 5G.
To recap, Nxtpaper, now on its 4th generation, is a display tech that aims to replicate the look and feel of paper by diffusing glare, reducing reflections, and filtering blue light, making it ideal for reading, note-taking, or prolonged screen use. Unlike the Kindles or other e-ink tablets, users can switch to full-color mode to watch movies or use the Tab 8 Nxtpaper 5G as a regular tablet.
The Tab 8 Nxtpaper 5G features an 8.7-inch matte screen with 800 x 1340 resolution that translates to a sharper display at 180 PPI. Still, the biggest draw here is the eye-friendly benefits. The tablet is said to filter 61% more blue light than regular tablets. On top of that, it can mimic the look of paper with special Nxtpaper modes, such as color paper and ink mode. The display also supports a 90 Hz refresh rate.
Under the hood, the tablet is said to run on a 2.4 GHz octa-core processor paired with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB of expandable storage. It also packs a 6,000 mAh battery that TCL claims can deliver up to 16 hours of mixed use. Other features include 5G connectivity, dual speakers, dual microphones with noise reduction, an 8 MP rear camera, and a 5 MP front camera. That said, the Tab 8 Nxtpaper 5G ships with Android 15 out of the box, and comes in at 211.88 x 125.58 x 8.35 mm (7.76 x 4.91 x 0.35 inches) and 365 grams (11.82 ounces) in size.
The TCL Tab 8 Nxtpaper 5G is now available exclusively from Verizon for $199.99. Buyers will also be able to purchase one at Total Wireless stores soon, according to TCL.
