The manufacturer TCL sells televisions as well as monitors, including some for gamers. With the TCL 27R94, the company has added a new display to its lineup, although an official MSRP has not been announced thus far.
That said, this monitor is designed for gaming, as the 27-inch panel offers a refresh rate of up to 165Hz, supports FreeSync Premium and G-Sync, which should eliminate issues like screen tearing. With 3840 x 2160 pixels, the screen offers a high 4K resolution and therefore requires a fairly powerful gaming PC or laptop. The gray-to-gray response time is specified as 1ms.
TCL’s new gaming monitor features a mini-LED backlight, which can be precisely controlled and should allow for appropriate reproduction of high-contrast content. The TCL 27R94 is advertised with DisplayHDR 1400 certification, while the mini-LED backlight has a total of 2,304 dimming zones. Most importantly, the Chinese brand advertises a peak brightness of 1,600 nits, although this does not refer to full-screen brightness.
In terms of connectivity, the 27-inch 4K monitor comes with HDMI, DisplayPort and USB Type-C. USB-C can be used to transmit a video signal but also power a connected device with up to 90 watts. A USB hub and KVM switch is onboard, so one keyboard and mouse can be used with multiple devices. The display can also show two inputs side-by-side or picture-in-picture (PbP/PiB). Lastly, the monitor is VESA-compatible, but the stock stand is adjustable as well.
