TCL launches Nxtpaper 11 Gen 2 tablet with a flicker-free, paper-like display to help minimize headaches and eye strain

TCL has launched the Nxtpaper 11 Gen 2 tablet with a flicker-free display that feels and looks like paper, according to the company. Along with other eye health technologies, the tablet might help reduce headaches and eye strain for those who are sensitive to flickering screens and harsh glare.
Digital display eyestrain and Nxtpaper 4.0 technology
Modern computing devices from laptops to tablets often employ a glossy display to help increase the contrast of displayed images. These screens also often use pulse width modulation (PWM) to adjust the screen brightness. Glossy displays produce harsh glare while PWM generates rapid light flickering, both of which cause serious health problems in users who are sensitive to them, such as eye strain, headaches, and nausea.
The tablet leverages Nxtpaper 4.0 nano-matrix lithography on the top glass to create a paper-like surface that has low glare, according to TCL. A circular polarizer alters the light output to potentially counter dry eye and eye fatigue, while a physical light filter modifies the light output to contain lower levels of potentially harmful blue light. A DC backlight regulator eliminates PWM light flickering to potentially reduce headaches, nausea, vertigo, and seizures.

The Nxtpaper 11 Gen 2 is powered by an 8-core MediaTek Helio G80 CPU with 6 or 8 GB of RAM and 64 or 128 GB of storage running Android 15. Available RAM is automatically doubled through the use of virtual RAM, and storage can be expanded using a microSD card. The tablet has Bluetooth 5.3 and 802.11ac Wi-Fi wireless connectivity.
Users can switch the 1,920 x 1,200 LCD display between regular color mode, color paper mode, and B&W ink paper mode at any time. The included T-pen stylus can sense 4,096 pressure levels when taking lecture notes or drawing diagrams, and magnetically attaches to the included flip-open stand case.
Users can join video meetings thanks to a 5 MP front camera and an 8 MP rear camera, dual mics, and dual speakers. AI-powered translations, subtitles, text summaries, and voice-transcription capabilities are also included.
The internal 8,000 mAh battery can reverse charge external devices such as a smartphone. The tablet weighs 17.64 oz. (500g) and measures 9.98 x 6.51 x 0.29 in. (25.3 x 16.5 x 0.4 cm).
