The Mate X7 has now arrived to take on the likes of the Honor Magic V5, Oppo Find N5 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 (curr. $1,599 on Amazon). In short, Huawei has decided against chasing thinness and lightness as its peers have. Instead, the company has made its latest foldable slightly thicker and heavier than its peers to accommodate almost the same camera hardware found in the Mate 80 Pro.
Specifically, the Mate X7 measures 156.8 x 73.8 mm x 9.5 mm or 156.8 x 144.2 mm x 4.5 mm when unfolded. Roughly the same footprint as its predecessor, the Mate X7 is only 4 g lighter than the Mate X6 too. However, the Mate X7 features larger cover and foldable displays than last year's model that now span 6.49-inches and 8-inches, respectively. Incidentally, both are LTPO OLED panels with 1-120 Hz variable refresh rates.
Moreover, the Mate X has returned with a 50 MP primary that boasts optical image stabilisation (OIS) and a 10-step physical variable aperture between f/1.4 and f/4.0. Also, it seems that the 40 MP ultra-wide-angle camera with its f/2.2 aperture has returned, as have the 8 MP selfie cameras with f/2.2 and f/2.4 apertures for the Mate X7's inner and external displays, respectively. With that being said, the Mate X7 Collector's Edition adopts an f/1.49-f/4.0 variable aperture primary camera. Also, both variants ship with a new 50 MP telephoto macro camera that combines an f/2.2 aperture with OIS too.
All this hardware is powered by a 5 nm Kirin 9030 Pro chipset and a 5,525 mAh battery, or a 5,600 mAh equivalent for the Collector's Edition. Both variants support 50 W wireless and 66 W wired charging, though. The Mate X7 starts at CNY 12,999 (~$1,835) with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, but rises to CNY 13,999 (~$1,975) with 512 GB of storage. Alternatively, Huawei sells 16 GB and 20 GB of RAM options as the Collector's Edition, with the latter retailing for CNY 17,599 (~$2,484). Huawei has not confirmed international release details yet.
