Huawei launches new ultra-premium smartphone with special design
Huawei has refreshed its RS Ultimate Design range with a Mate 80 edition to celebrate today's wider Mate 80 release. As always, Huawei distinguishes the RS Ultimate Design from its regular peers with a more elaborate design, among a few other tweaks.
This time, Huawei has based the RS Ultimate Design around the Mate 80 Pro Max, which should surpass rivals like the Galaxy S25 Ultra on all but raw performance (curr. $899 on Amazon). To that end, the Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design carries over many of its sibling's features, like an 8,000 nit tandem OLED display and a Kirin 9030 Pro chipset. Likewise, the new RS Ultimate Design contains a 6,000 mAh battery that supports 50 W wireless and 66 W wired charging.
However, Huawei has replaced the Mate 80 Pro Max's metal case with a titanium frame and a Kunlun Glass 2 back panel. For reference, this glass type extends to the RS Ultimate Design's front, which helps contribute to its 249 g overall weight. Also, Huawei has adopted triple punch-hole front-facing cameras, with two 3D depth sensors joining a 13 MP front-facing lens.
Nonetheless, the RS Ultimate Design also leverages a side-mounted capacitive fingerprint scanner and the same rear-facing camera system as the Mate 80 Pro Max. The Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design starts at CNY 11,999 (~$1,694) with 512 GB of storage and rises to CNY 12,999 (~$1,835) with 1 TB of storage. Both SKUs feature 20 GB of RAM, too. Details about an international release remain unknown for the time being.
