Xiaomi releases Poco F8 Ultra globally to undercut Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 flagships at $729
Xiaomi may have launched the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max in September. However, the Poco F8 Ultra is the company's first smartphone to use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset globally. Paired with a 6.9-inch AMOLED display, the Poco F8 Ultra is about the same size as the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max in the process while also being about 3 mm tall, 3 mm wider and 0.5 mm thinner than the Poco F7 Ultra that preceded it (curr. $747 on Amazon).
The Poco F8 Ultra contains over upgrades over the Poco F7 Ultra too, not least a brighter 120 Hz display that reaches 3,500 nits (APL 25%) while delivering a 2,608 x 1,200 pixel resolution. Additionally, Xiaomi installs three speakers with a Bose-tuned subwoofer positioned next to the device's triple rear-facing cameras. For reference, these are all 50 MP sensors, with a 1/1.31-inch and f/1.67 primary camera aided by 115 mm telephoto (5x/OIS) and f/2.4 ultra-wide-angle cameras.
Moreover, Xiaomi also equips the Poco F8 Ultra with a 32 MP front-facing camera to round off the device's impressive camera hardware. On top of that, the Poco F8 Ultra supports 50 W wireless and 100 W wired charging to top up its 6,500 mAh battery. For context, this capacity represents a circa 23% upgrade on the 5,300 mAh battery powering Poco F7 Ultra.
The Poco F8 Ultra is available to order from today for $679 with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Alternatively, Xiaomi offers its latest high-end smartphone with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage for $729. Please note that these prices will increase to $729 and $799, respectively, after Xiaomi's Early Bird ends on December 10.
