The OnePlus 15R will may not be based on the recent Ace 6 after all. Initially, OnePlus was believed to have re-branded the Ace 6 for global audiences, just like the Ace 5 and OnePlus 13R before it (curr. $549 on Amazon). Then earlier this week, reports emerged that OnePlus would be skipping the Snapdragon 8 Elite and the Ace 6 for a new chipset instead.
Now, OnePlus has confirmed as much across a bunch of recent social media posts. As expected, the company is set to offer the OnePlus 15R with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, which Qualcomm officially presented earlier today. Incidentally, this is the same chipset upon which the Ace 6T is based, which OnePlus has confirmed will launch with a 165 Hz OLED display.
If that similarity was not already enough, then OnePlus has also confirmed that the OnePlus 15R is up to IP69K certified against dust and water, just like the Ace 6T. The OnePlus 15R will launch globally on December 17, with a simultaneous Indian launch planned too. At this stage, it seems that the OnePlus 15R will be the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 5-powered smartphone to launch globally.
