The Mate 80 Pro is Huawei's only new flagship available with a choice of chipsets. Surpassing the Mate 80 that relies on the older Kirin 9020, the Mate 80 Pro combines a bright display, high-end cameras and 100 W wired charging with a Kirin 9030 or Kirin 9030 Pro chipset.

Huawei has unveiled the Mate 80 Pro today in China as part of a bumper launch event. The middle child in the Mate 80 series, the Mate 80 Pro is the only one of the four that features Huawei's new Kirin 9030 chipset. By contrast, the Mate 80 leverages the older Kirin 9020, while the Mate 80 Pro Max and Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design exclusively use the Kirin 9030 Pro.

Incidentally, the Mate 80 Pro can be configured with the Kirin 9030 Pro too, but only when opting for 16 GB RAM SKUs. As a result, the Mate 80 should be upwards of 40% more powerful than the Mate 80 if optioned with the Kirin 9030 Pro. With that being said, the Kirin 9030 Pro will see the Mate 80 Pro trailing when it comes to the performance of modern flagships like the iPhone 17 Pro, Find X9 Pro or even the Galaxy S25 Plus (curr. $969 on Amazon).

Moreover, the Mate 80 and Mate 80 Pro share the same 6.75-inch LTPO AMOLED display that delivers a 1-120 Hz variable refresh rate, 8,000 nits peak brightness and a 1,280 x 2,832 pixel resolution. Separately, the Mate 80 Pro contains 50 MP primary, 40 MP ultra-wide-angle, 48 MP macro telephoto and 13 MP front-facing cameras aided by a 3D depth sensor for face unlocking purposes. For reference, the Mate 80 Pro matches its Pro Max sibling with an f/1.4-f/4.0 variable aperture with optical image stabilisation (OIS) found on its 4x telephoto camera too.

The Mate 80 Pro surpasses its regular counterpart with 80 W wireless and 100 W wired charging support as well, albeit with the same 5,750 mAh battery. The Mate 80 Pro starts at CNY 5,999 (~$847) with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Alternatively, the device can be configured with three other memory combinations culminating in a 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage variant that retails for CNY 7,999 (~$1,129). As with the rest of the Mate 80 series, Huawei is yet to confirm any international launch plans yet.
