Huawei has now launched the Mate 80 Pro Max in its home market alongside a slew of other devices including the Mate X7 and MatePad Edge. Incidentally, pre-release benchmarks revealed that Huawei had equipped the Mate 80 Pro Max with the Kirin 9030 Pro chipset, which Huawei has now confirmed itself.
A 5 nm class chipset, the Kirin 9030 Pro appears to offer about the same multi-core performance as the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1. However, single-core performance is closer to something like the Dimensity 7350 Pro 5G, Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 or Exynos 1480 found in last-generation mid-range smartphones like the Galaxy A55 (curr. $439 on Amazon). Setting that aside, the Kirin 9030 Pro is said to outperform the Kirin 9020 by over 40%.
Meanwhile, the Mate 80 Pro Max itself contains a 6.9-inch tandem OLED display to rival the iPhone 17 Pro Max boasting an alleged 8,000 nits peak brightness with a 2,848 x 1,320 pixel resolution, a 120 Hz refresh rate and a 1,440 Hz PWM frequency. Also, Huawei includes the following camera hardware:
- Primary: 50 MP, f/1.4 - f/4.0 variable aperture, OIS
- Telephoto: 50 MP, f/3.2, OIS, 6.2x zoom
- Macro telephoto: 50 MP, f/2.1 aperture, OIS, 4x zoom
- Ultra-wide-angle: 40 MP, f/2.2 aperture
- Front-facing: 13 MP, f/2.0 aperture, 3D depth support
Moreover, the Mate 80 Pro Max boasts a 6,000 mAh battery that supports 80 W wireless and 100 W wired charging, all within an IP69-certified housing that measures 164.4 x 79 x 8.25 mm and weighs 239 g. The Mate 80 Pro Max starts at CNY 7,999 (~$1,130) with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. Alternatively, the device can be configured with 1 TB of storage and the same amount of RAM for CNY 8,999 (~$1,270).
