The Mate 80 is the cheapest entry in Huawei's latest flagship smartphone series behind the Mate 80 Pro, Mate 80 Pro Max and the Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design. Regardless, the Mate 80 contains enough hardware to distinguish it from equivalents like the iPhone 17, Galaxy S25 and the Pixel 10 (curr. $599 on Amazon), among others.
For example, Huawei equips the Mate 80 with an LTPO OLED display that outputs at 2,832 x 1,280 pixels with a 1-120 Hz variable refresh rate and 8,000 nits peak brightness, just like the Mate 80 Pro Max. Likewise, Huawei protects the 6.75-inch display with Kunlun Glass 2. Moreover, the Mate 80 finds itself with up to 16 GB of RAM, 512 GB of storage and a 5,750 mAh battery that supports 50 W wireless and 66 W wired charging.
Also, Huawei includes a 50 MP primary camera with OIS and an f/1.4-f/4.0 variable aperture lens. A 40 MP ultra-wide-angle (f/2.2) camera is onboard too, as are 12 MP telephoto (5.5x/OIS) and 13 MP front-facing cameras. Furthermore, the Mate 80 leverages a 3D front-facing sensor too for face unlock purposes.
Unfortunately, the Mate 80 makes do with a last-generation Kirin 9020 chipset rather than the newer alternatives found inside the Mate 80 Pro, Mate 80 Pro Max and Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design. The Mate 80 starts at CNY 4,699 (~$663) with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage but can be configured with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage for CNY 5,499 (~$776).
