HMD Global has partnered with Finnish smartwatch manufacturer Xplora to develop the XploraOne, a mini-smartphone, or rather a touchscreen feature phone. The device is designed to be suitable as a secondary device for adults or as a first mobile phone for children, as its limited functionality aims to eliminate the usual distractions of a modern smartphone.
The XploraOne has neither an app store nor social media apps, so TikTok and Instagram are not available on the device. The device offers a range of features specifically for parents setting up the XploraOne for their child. These include restrictions on when calls can be made to which contacts, as well as monitoring all photos taken and calendar entries.
The XploraOne does not have a web browser. The device features a rear camera with LED flash, a 3.5 mm headphone jack and an integrated 4G modem. Details about the hardware specifications have not yet been confirmed, but it is likely that the phone is based on the HMD Touch 4G, which has a 3.2-inch touchscreen with 320 x 240 resolution, a Unisoc T127 ARM chip, a 2 MP main camera, and a 1,950 mAh battery. Measuring 10.2 x 6.2 x 1.09 centimeters and weighing 100 grams, the phone is extremely compact.
Price and availability
Details regarding the price and availability of the HMD Global XploraOne are expected to be confirmed soon. Further information about the smartphone can be found on the manufacturer's website.
