Xiaomi 15T verdict: How good are videos on the affordable Android smartphone?
Although the camera hardware of the Xiaomi 15T is not quite on par with its flagship competitors, we were still impressed with its Leica camera setup. The main camera in particular is impressive in view of the price of this mid-range smartphone (around €400).
Compared to the Pro model, the Leica main camera only utilizes a 1/1.55-inch sensor, which is also found in the Mix Flip 2. Nevertheless, the Light Fusion 800 sensor allows for good photos in daylight. In low light, the relatively low light sensitivity in our test photos was a pleasant surprise.
No 8K on the Xiaomi 15T, but it comes with LOG and LUT
The Xiaomi 15T's camera offers high resolution and optical image stabilization (OIS), but video recording is limited to a maximum of 4K60. Unlike the Pro model, the more affordable smartphone in the T series does not support 120 fps for UHD videos or an 8K option.
But the Xiaomi 15T does offer LUT import and the LOG video format. This allows you to insert or apply "Look-Up Tables" (LUTs) during video editing. LUTs function as predefined color profiles or color correction tables to selectively modify or improve the appearance of a video. The LOG format, on the other hand, is a special recording mode designed to generate the widest possible dynamic range and provide greater flexibility during post-production. Unlike standard video recordings, which are already color-corrected, the Xiaomi 15T records the image with more detail and neutral color reproduction in the LOG profile.
Recording in 4K30 is possible at all focal lengths. Our sample video demonstrates the quality and stabilization of the Leica cameras in the range between 0.6x and 10x magnification.
