With skyrocketing component prices, building a PC is becoming increasingly unaffordable, especially in the ~$1,000 segment. It makes gaming laptops even more attractive to those looking to dip their toes into PC gaming. The Asus TUF A16 offers a decent balance of performance and price while not breaking the bank. A new promotion on Best Buy makes it more of an attractive buy than ever.
The Asus TUF Gaming A16 FA608UP features a 16-inch FHD+ (1920 x 1200) IPS-level LCD panel with a 3 ms response time and a 165 Hz refresh rate. It supports Nvidia G-Sync and includes a MUX switch. A 90 Wh battery powers the laptop, and it requires a 240 Watt power adapter to operate.
Under the hood, the TUF Gaming A16 comes with an AMD Ryzen 9 270 processor and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 GPU (115 Watts TDP) with 8 GB VRAM. The CPU packs eight Zen 4 CPU cores and boosts up to 5.2 GHz. For storage, you get a 1 TB NVMe SSD with the option to add a second drive via an empty slot. Similarly, its 32 GB of DDR5 RAM can also be increased to up to 64 GB.
As a part of Asus' budget-focused TUF series, the laptop doesn't offer much in the way of high-end I/O. You get one USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C port, two USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A ports, one USB 2.0 port and one USB 4.0 port with DP out function. Unfortunately, we were unable to review the exact configuration mentioned above, but we did take the RTX 5070 + Ryzen 7 260 variant for a spin.
The Asus TUF Gaming A16 can be bought on Best Buy for $1,199, making it $500 cheaper than its asking price of $1,699. That said, the laptop is regularly discounted to around $1,349, but $1,199 is the lowest it has ever been.
