New smartphones dominated Huawei's product launches today, whether that be the Mate 80, an entry-level flagship, or the Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design at the other end of the scale. Among these four Mate 80 series releases, Huawei also introduced the Mate X7 foldable, as well as the MatePad Edge to rival both the iPad Pro 13 and Surface Pro 11 (curr. $749 on Amazon).
Moreover, the company has refreshed its ultra-premium smartwatch in its home market too. For context, the new Watch Ultimate Design arrives roughly two months after the Watch Ultimate 2, which combined a ceramic bezel and back with a zirconium front case, a sapphire crystal front and 150 m waterproofing (20 ATM). While the Watch Ultimate Design draws on many of these design features, it adds 18ct gold to distinguish it from the Watch Ultimate 2.
At its core, the Watch Ultimate Design appears to contain the same 1.5-inch LTPO AMOLED display. As a result, Huawei's new smartwatch outputs at 466 x 466 pixels with 3,500 nits peak brightness but only a 60 Hz refresh rate. Meanwhile, Huawei's in-house Kirin W80 chipset is said to help deliver up to 11 days of battery life in power saving mode or 3 days with its always-on display functionality enabled. Huawei does not clarify battery capacity, though.
Setting that aside, the new Watch Ultimate Design utilises LTE, UWB and BeiDou satellite connectivity, as well as a health suite capable of taking an ECG, monitoring skin temperature and providing a health overview within around 60 seconds. The new Extraordinary Master Purple Gold edition is a hefty smartwatch though at around 80.9 g excluding its strap and a 48.3 mm case size. The new Watch Ultimate retails for CNY 24,999 (~$3,529) in China with no word yet on international availability.
