The Ayn Thor has already been showcased, but is now (again) available for pre-order, including the affordable Lite version for $249. Delivery of this second batch is scheduled to begin in mid-January, so interested buyers will have to wait a little longer and should carefully check the shipping terms beforehand, as buyers in different locations may have to pay different prices (click here to view Ayn's shipping policy).
The Lite model is positioned below the Base mode in terms of both features and price. The Lite model comes with the same storage as the Base model, but only with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 instead of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which results in lower performance, but this should not be a deal breaker in regard to how the Thor is typically used, namely for the emulation of retro titles. The price difference to the Base model is $50. The RAM is 8 GB and the internal storage 128 GB. Unlike some other manufacturers of retro handhelds, Ayn itself does not offer memory cards with ROMs for video games that may be subject to copyright issues.
The handheld features two AMOLED screens with resolutions of 1,080 x 1,920 and 1,080 x 1,240 and screen diagonals of 6 and 3.92 inches, respectively. The SoC is actively cooled and runs Android 13. Weighing 380 grams and measuring 25.6 millimeters thick, the Ayn Thor Lite comes with a 6000 mAh battery and can output video via USB-C. WiFi 6 is included, and control options include Hall-effect-based joysticks.
