Intel's Panther Lake era is now upon us with a range of processors to suit lightweight ultrabooks through to creator laptops and gaming laptops. For CES 2026, Intel has already dropped a few hints about the state of Panther Lake gaming handhelds, too.
For context, the AMD-powered Legion Go 2 and cheaper Legion Go S (curr. $646 on Amazon) graced CES 2025 to follow the Lunar Lake-powered Claw 7 AI+ and Claw 8 AI+. While the latter has received new visual refreshes for CES 2026, MSI has not been forthcoming about a true successor.
Instead, Intel has confirmed that various OEMs are on board to help create 'an entire handheld gaming platform' built around its Panther Lake architecture. Unfortunately, Intel was only at liberty to reveal that this platform would be outlined 'later this year'. Thus, it seems unlikely that Panther Lake-based handhelds will be ready anytime soon.
Nonetheless, Intel made its announcement with the backdrop of brands like Acer, GPD, Microsoft, MSI and OneXPlayer mentioned. Consequently, it seems probable that more OEMs are preparing to adopt Panther Lake than Lunar Lake, which promises to deliver over 75% faster graphics at 25 W than the Arc 140V inside the Core Ultra 9 288V.
