The MSI Claw 8 AI+ remains one of the most recommended PC handhelds around, with the device surpassing the lacklustre Claw A1M in almost every department. While MSI also released the Claw 7 AI+ as a cheaper alternative, neither it nor its 8-inch sibling are free from shortcomings. However, it seems that MSI is preparing to rectify one of these with the release of its next Claw handheld.
As it stands, the Claw 7 AI+ and Claw 8 AI+ lack the ergonomics of something like the Legion Go S or the software polish of Asus' alternatives, even down to the ROG Xbox Ally (curr. $589.99 on Amazon). Additionally, MSI's current PC handhelds fall short of the displays found in the Steam Deck OLED and the Legion Go 2, with the Claw 7 AI+ and Claw 8 AI+ sticking with IPS panels instead.
Currently, Intel has suggested that MSI's next PC handheld will adopt its new Panther Lake architecture with a dedicated handheld processor. Also, MSI executives have hinted that a switch to OLED display technology is in order, too. Based on the video below, it seems that MSI has no plans to adopt built-in trackpads like Valve or Lenovo, though. The launch of MSI's next PC handhelds remain a mystery at this stage, beyond sometime later this year. Likewise, the exact details of the handheld's processor are still unconfirmed at this point.
