After vehemently denying that it won't launch a SteamOS version of the Legion Go 2, Lenovo has announced a version of the handheld preloaded with Valve's operating system. The Legion Go 2 Powered by SteamOS has the same design and specs as the Windows version but a higher starting price.

Last year, Lenovo launched the Legion Go S as the first non-Valve handheld to officially ship with SteamOS. It also announced a Windows version of the handheld. However, when it showcased the Legion Go 2 at CES 2025, it said it wasn't considering SteamOS for the handheld.

Even after the device was eventually announced in September 2025, it reiterated during a Q&A session that there will be no official SteamOS version of the Legion Go 2, despite an official promotional image showing the device running SteamOS. Just a few months later, Lenovo has now announced the Legion Go 2 at CES 2026.

The Legion Go 2 Powered by SteamOS has the same technical specifications as the Windows version. The display is an 8.8-inch 1920 x 1200 OLED panel with a 144Hz refresh rate, a 16:10 aspect ratio, and up to 500 nits of brightness. It is available with up to an AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor, up to 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and up to 2TB M.2 2242 PCIe SSD (Gen 4). There's a microSD card slot for adding up to an additional 2TB of storage.

It also features Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, an audio jack, dual 2W speakers, dual array near field mics, and dual Type-C ports with support for USB 4.0, DisplayPort 1.4, and Power Delivery 3.0. Under the hood is a 74Wh battery, and included in the box is a 65W charging brick.

The Legion Go 2 powered by SteamOS even comes in the same Eclipse Black color as the Windows version, unlike the Legion Go S whose Windows version (curr. available on Amazon for $649.73) is white and SteamOS version is a shade of purple called Nebula Nocturne.

The Legion Go 2 Powered by SteamOS will be available in June 2026 with a starting price of $1,199. That is slightly higher than the Windows version, which has a starting price of $1099.99 for the base model with a Ryzen Z2 processor, 16GB RAM, and 1TB storage.
