Asus is bringing plenty of gaming monitors to CES 2026 this week in Las Vegas. On top of the ROG Swift OLED PG27UCWM and others, the company has also revealed a set of augmented reality (AR) glasses.
As the video below and its name make clear, the ROG Xreal R1 have been developed in collaboration with Xreal rather than being a standalone Asus creation. Consequently, these are not smart glasses like the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 1 or Gen 2. Instead, the ROG Xreal R1 follows in the footsteps of past Xreal AR glasses like the Xreal One Pro (curr. $649 on Amazon).
Unfortunately, the FHD (1,920 x 1,080) restriction of older AR glasses remains, as does the relatively narrow 57-degree field of view (FoV) and 3 degrees of freedom (DoF). Nonetheless, the ROG Xreal R1 has a few advantages over other AR glasses in its corner. For one, the ROG Xreal R1 offers a 240 Hz refresh rate across its micro OLED displays rather than the 120 Hz peak of contemporary AR glasses.
Additionally the ROG Xreal R1 features Bose-tuned speakers, with speaker quality being a shortcoming of many AR glasses. Moreover, Asus advertises its glasses with the ROG Control Dock, an accessory that bridges the gap between the ROG Xreal R1 and devices like a PC via DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 ports. Currently, Asus hopes to launch the ROG Xreal R1 and ROG Control Dock before the summer. Pricing remains a mystery at this stage, as do full technical specifications.
