Lenovo has confirmed it will showcase the ThinkPad Rollable XD as a proof-of-concept device alongside its new portfolio at CES 2026. The device will be Lenovo's foray into how adaptive hardware can support more contextual and flexible computing use cases in the future.
Based on the preview material, the ThinkPad Rollable XD Concept uses a rollable display that expands vertically, which lets the screen change size depending on the task. This approach is expected to improve workflows that usually benefit from additional vertical space, such as document editing, coding, or multitasking, without actually increasing the laptop’s footprint when closed.
Lenovo describes the device as part of its broader research into intelligent, context-aware form factors rather than a commercial product. No hardware specifications, pricing, or availability details have been announced as of writing.
The concept is also in line with Lenovo’s ongoing experimentation with unconventional display formats, following earlier foldable and dual-screen ThinkPad prototypes. Similar to those projects, the Rollable XD's goal is to basically demonstrate feasibility and user interaction ideas. Lenovo has not indicated whether the rollable mechanism is designed for durability testing beyond any concept demonstrations.
