One-Netbook has now wrapped up the crowdfunding campaign for its first AMD Strix Halo-powered gaming handheld. For context, the OneXPlayer Apex arrived over two months ago in the wake of the GPD Win 5. Meanwhile, Ayaneo is yet to provide a concrete launch date for the equivalent Ayaneo Next 2.
As it stands, the OneXPlayer Apex is the first of the three to be sold directly on a manufacturer's website. With that being said, Strix Halo mini-PCs are already available in abundance featuring up to 128 GB of RAM, including the GMKtec EVO-X2 (curr. $2,299 on Amazon).
Currently, One-Netbook is offering the handheld for $1,699 with a Ryzen AI Max 385, 32 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD from an alleged $1,899 retail price. However, Ryzen AI Max+ 395 SKUs now start at $1,899 with 48 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD, but rise to $2,539 when configuring that APU with 128 GB of RAM and twice as much storage.
Alternatively, One-Netbook is offering the Apex with built-in liquid cooling support and a corresponding liquid cooling unit for a $259 surcharge across all SKUs. In short, this additional cooling allows the Ryzen AI Max 385 or Ryzen AI Max+ 395 to reach a 120 W TDP, providing a 50% uplift over the air-cooled model. OneXPlayer Apex orders placed on the OneXPlayer website should begin shipping around February 10. Please note that all prices mentioned are expected to rise by $200 eventually. It is unclear when at this stage, though.
