One-Netbook’s ONEXSUGAR Wallet is a clamshell retro handheld that pairs an 8.01‑inch foldable OLED display with built-in gaming controls, positioning itself as the first compact Android gaming device to use a single, continuous bendable screen. Drawing on foldable phone design and optimized for DS and 3DS emulation, it promises true pocketability and a seamless dual-screen experience, though questions remain about hinge durability and long-term wear.

One-Netbook is making strides with a new, foldable-design retro handheld. The company has been pushing the ONEXSUGAR brand’s boundaries in recent months with some rather unconventional designs.

The transformable dual-screen Sugar 1, which debuted earlier this year, has been a monumental success. However, the company is not slowing down, as ONEXSUGAR just unveiled an even more ambitious device, the ONEXSUGAR Wallet. The company posted a short showcase video titled, “Redefine ‘Portability!’ The ONEXSUGAR Wallet foldable screen is about to be released.”

The video showed close-ups of what appears to be an actual clamshell retro handheld with a single, uniform, foldable display. This will make it the first foldable Android gaming device to cram a bendable screen in such a compact, pocket-friendly format, albeit with dedicated gaming controls this time around.

The ONEXSUGAR Wallet clearly draws design inspiration from recent foldable phones, such as the Samsung Z-Flip and Google’s Pixel Fold. When fully open, the clamshell showcases a large 8.01-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2480 x 1861 and a 4:3 aspect ratio.

The aspect ratio is a given for precise retro emulation, especially for Nintendo DS and 3DS titles that would take advantage of the taller, now-seamless displays, without the enormous gap separating the dual panels.

The best part is that retro gamers can fold it up to a much smaller size and fit it in their wallets, unlike larger handhelds like the Sugar 1. So far, we’ve seen that the ONEXSUGAR Wallet packs a traditional D-PAD, face buttons, low-profile dual analog sticks, and shoulder buttons.

Still, the single continuous screen seen on a retro handheld for the first time is worth mentioning, something that even Microsoft couldn’t pull off with its Surface Duo or ONEXSUGAR with its own prior models. However, there are a few concerns about the inset hinge if it’s engineered to minimize issues seen in foldable phones, such as dust and lint accruing in the creases.

ONEXSUGAR has built a solid reputation for its quirky, yet risky, handhelds that step away from the usual Game Boy-esque designs that continue to saturate the market. Now, the Wallet, with its OLED panel and uniform foldable display, is already winning the hearts of DS and 3DS fans.

In the preview trailer, the company labeled the ONEXSUGAR Wallet as “Coming Soon 2026.” This could indicate that fans could hypothetically line up to buy what is expected to be an in-demand handheld in the summer or fall of 2026.
