In EVERSPACE 2, players take on the role of Adam Roslin, a clone who has escaped captivity and now works as a freelance pilot in space. It does not take long before he is drawn into galactic conflicts involving syndicates, corporations, fanatics, and ancient alien species. According to a review by German gaming magazine PC Games, the story offers few surprises and mainly serves to tie the many missions together in a coherent way.
In terms of gameplay, EVERSPACE 2 moves away from the rogue-lite structure of its predecessor and adopts a more traditional action RPG approach. The core experience centers on fast-paced, arcade-style space combat, supported by a wide range of weapons, abilities, and gear. New loot upgrades your ship in meaningful ways, encouraging constant build refinement – a system clearly inspired by games like Diablo. The game world is divided into several large, hand-crafted sectors that players can explore freely. This open structure is expanded through side missions, puzzles, and optional activities, turning the main storyline into a varied and engaging space adventure.
In its review, PC Games highlighted EVERSPACE 2’s rewarding loot and leveling systems, its impressive scope – offering up to 50 hours of gameplay including side quests – and its richly detailed game world. The lack of microtransactions and online requirements also earned praise. On the downside, the story did not fully reach its potential and the soundtrack was considered underwhelming. Combat was also described as somewhat too arcadey, while the map was seen as overly cluttered. Despite these criticisms, the game received a solid score of 8 out of 10. On Steam, around 12,300 user reviews are 86% positive, while Metacritic lists a Metascore of 81 and a User Score of 7.5.
