This year, 8BitDo launched the Arcade Controller, a leverless controller that is available in two versions — an N Edition that is compatible with Windows and Nintendo Switch, and an Xbox Edition made for Xbox consoles and Windows. Now, a leak has revealed HP-owned HyperX is planning to launch its own leverless arcade controller that will be a rival to the 8BitDo Arcade Controller for Xbox.
First reported by WindowsLatest, the controller is revealed to be called the HyperX Clutch Tachi, and from the leaked images, it has an Xbox button, which means it should carry the “Designed for Xbox” label. However, the images, as well as a product video, show that the HyperX Clutch Tachi is a wired controller and not a wireless one like the 8BitDo Arcade Controller for Xbox (curr. available on Amazon for $79.99).
The HyperX Clutch Tachi has 12 buttons like 8BitDo's controller. However, 8BitDo adds four additional programmable buttons that can be configured for complex combos. The HyperX Clutch Tachi is also significantly thicker and has a removable metallic faceplate instead of glass like on the 8BitDo Arcade Controller for Xbox.
According to the source, the HyperX Clutch Tachi uses TMR sensors, a first for an arcade controller for precise controls. It also has RGBs which can be customized with the new HyperX NGENUITY software.
There's no info on the price of the HyperX Clutch Tachi, but considering it is a wired controller, it should cost less than the 8BitDo Arcade Controller for Xbox, which launched for $99.99.
