The Omen 16 is one of two 16-inch HyperX Omen-branded gaming laptops that HP has launched today as part of its CES 2026 showcase. While the Omen 16 Max is the star of the show, the regular Omen 16 still has a few tricks up its sleeve.
It is worth noting that HP has not directly updated the Omen 16 Slim for CES 2026 (curr. $1,340 on Amazon). Nonetheless, the new Omen 16 is only marginally thicker and heavier than the Omen 16 Slim, which weighs around 2.42 kg and is roughly 22.6 mm thick at its thickest point. By contrast, the new Omen 16 comes in at 2.47 kg and 25.4 mm.
According to HP, the added heft allowed it to include a redesigned Omen Tempest Cooling system with a refined heat pipe design for higher total platform power without thermal throttling. To that end, the new Omen 16 will be configurable with up to a Core Ultra 7 365H or Core Ultra 9 275HX, as well as a choice of next-gen but mysterious AMD and Intel processors.
Moreover, HP has included up to 64 GB of DDR5-5600 MT/s RAM and a GeForce RTX 5060 or GeForce RTX 5070 laptop GPU. Incidentally, only AMD SKUs support upgradeable RAM. Likewise, HP restricts PCIe Gen 5 SSDs to AMD SKUs, instead opting for slower PCIe 4.0 alternatives with Intel alternatives.
Meanwhile, these components are joined by 70 Wh or 83 Wh batteries that support up to 330 W charging and three keyboard backlight options. Also, HP plans to sell the Omen 16 with four display options, including 2.5K/165 Hz OLED and 2.5K/240 Hz IPS panels. HP has not confirmed pricing or availability yet, though.
