Following AMD's launch of several Ryzen Z2 series chips specifically marketed for gaming handhelds, Intel is expected to follow suit, potentially offering higher performance and longer battery life for gaming handhelds such the MSI Claw 8 AI+.
According to the latest information from VideoCardz, the Intel Core G3 series is designed for gaming handhelds. These chips are based on the same architecture as Intel Panther Lake, but they are not simply rebranded Core Ultra 300 chips. The fastest Intel Core G3 processor reportedly features only two performance cores, complemented by eight efficiency cores and four low-power cores – Panther Lake does not yet offer a chip with a total of 14 CPU cores. The iGPU is also new, as the Intel Arc B380 is reportedly a lower-clocked version of the Arc B390, but is also said to be equipped with 12 Xe2 cores.
The Intel Core G3 series is expected to include a second chip equipped with an Intel Arc B360 iGPU. Details about this iGPU are currently unavailable, but if it is based on the Arc B370, it would feature 10 Xe2 cores. The release date of the Intel Core G3 series is still unknown. At the very least, no new handhelds with Intel processors were announced at CES. With Intel now challenging AMD in the handheld market, it remains to be seen whether Panther Lake and the Core G3 series will be enough to end AMD's dominance in this market segment.
