Gigabyte is one of the biggest hardware manufacturers in the PC industry, and it looks like the company may be entering the gaming handheld market soon. In a recent interview with PCWorld during CES 2026, Eddie Lin, the CEO of Gigabyte, shared his thoughts on whether the company plans to launch a handheld gaming device.
Lin said that many people have asked Gigabyte about making its own gaming handheld. According to him, actually building a handheld is not the biggest challenge anymore, especially since many manufacturers in China already have the experience and supply chains to make such devices. The real challenge, however, is differentiation.
Lin stressed that Gigabyte does not want to release a handheld that looks and feels like everything else on the market. For the company, simply entering the space without offering something meaningfully different would not make sense.
Right now, the handheld gaming market is already crowded. Companies like Valve, ASUS, and Lenovo are leading the space with devices such as the Steam Deck, ROG Xbox Ally, and Legion Go. These handhelds already offer strong performance, high-quality displays, good cooling, and premium builds. Even MSI is expected to introduce a new gaming handheld with an OLED display.
Because of this, Gigabyte would need a strong idea to compete. A cheaper handheld could be one option, but with memory and SSD prices constantly rising, making a low-cost device right now would be difficult.
