Over the past months, there have been more or less contradictory rumors about the successor to the Apple iPhone Air and whether it will still sport a single rear camera with a 48MP sensor, or if Apple will also include an ultra-wide camera, as found on the more affordable iPhone 17.
While Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman assumes that the iPhone Air 2 will stick with a single rear camera, the usually well-informed leaker Instant Digital is now reinforcing earlier rumors that an ultra-wide camera is planned. To make this possible, Apple is reportedly developing an ultra-thin Face ID module that would create enough space for an additional rear camera inside the phone’s slim chassis. The Apple iPhone Air 2 is also expected to receive an upgrade to the more efficient Apple A20 chipset for better battery life. Otherwise, no major upgrades are expected. The iPhone Air 2 might be scheduled to launch in spring 2027.
MacBook Pro M6 might get Face ID
The leaker further claims that the same ultra-small Face ID module will also be found in the upcoming MacBook Pro with Apple M6 Pro and M6 Max processors. Rumors have already suggested that the MacBook Pro M6 will receive a brand-new design with a touchscreen and Dynamic Island instead of a notch. The fingerprint sensor could also get replaced by Apple’s 3D facial recognition that automatically unlocks the laptop as soon as it is opened.
