iPhone 18 left behind, iPhone Air 2 still on track, leaker claims

The upcoming iPhone 18 series has become a point of contention not just because of the staggered launch cycle but also because industry insiders and leakers can’t seem to find common ground. A new leak has suggested that the iPhone 18 will retain the design - dynamic island and all - from the iPhone 17. The same leaker has also reiterated on what they believe will be the launch timeline for the iPhone Air 2.
Previous leaks have suggested that the iPhone 18 series will see a small design change for the dynamic island, said to be shrinking in size. Other claims state that only the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models will see a smaller dynamic island. The new information from leaker Fixed Focused Digital on Weibo echoes the latter as they cite industry sources and claim the design will be “largely unchanged.”
In a separate post, Fixed Focused Digital shared information on the iPhone Air 2’s release timeline. There have been reports of the iPhone Air 2 being pushed to 2027 because Apple wants to add a second camera. On the other hand, industry insider Mark Gurman claimed that the Air 2 will be pushed to 2027 but it’s not going to get a secondary camera. Now, Fixed Focused Digital’s latest post suggests the regular launch cycle will be followed and the Air 2 will release alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max this fall.
As for the secondary camera, the leaker says it will be a routine upgrade without any major upgrades.
These rumors from leakers and industry insiders don’t seem to align on when and what the iPhone 18 series will bring. What seems to be certain is that the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will get a smaller dynamic island, while retaining the overall design of the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max.
Of course, Apple is not shared any information on the upcoming devices so take this with a pinch of salt.
