Folks who have bought an Apple iPhone 17 Pro in the US have been able to enjoy a larger battery capacity, courtesy of Apple having removed the SIM slot in US models, which has allowed the company to instal a slightly larger battery. Outside the US, however, this change was not made.
According to Techmaniacs, Apple's experiment was deemed internally successful, and the brand has now reportedly decided to make the switch to eSIM-only for its entire iPhone 18 lineup globally as well. This would allow the entire iPhone 18 family to reap the benefits of larger batteries, and the benefits won't be exclusive to US customers.
That said, certain markets where eSIM adoption is not as prevalent might have trouble adapting to Apple's plans. Whether Apple will make market-specific considerations remains to be seen. Techmaniacs further claims that the iPhone 18 Pro Max will pack a battery that is roughly 5,100 to 5,200 mAh in capacity. While nowhere near the capacities provided by the Chinese flagships which utilize Silicon-Carbon tech, it is still a respectable bump regardless.
The iPhone 18 Pro lineup is expected to arrive this September, alongside the much-awaited iPhone Fold. The vanilla iPhone 18 lineup, however, is unlikely to release before March of next year. Other rumored updates for the iPhone 18 Pro lineup include a slimmer Dynamic Island, a thicker and heftier build, rear camera setup with variable aperture and improved sensors, and A20 Pro SoCs based on TSMC's 2nm process.
