Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra: Latest camera teaser is AI slop

One of the most famous smartphone advertising campaigns is Apple's "Shot on iPhone", where the company demonstrates what kind of photos are possible, having started with the 8 MP camera of the iPhone 6. But in 2026, eleven years after the Apple campaign made its official debut, Samsung is using neither impressive photos nor an elaborate video production to promote the camera of its upcoming flagship smartphone.
Instead of handing the Galaxy S26 Ultra to a talented team of photographers and videographers and publishing the results, Samsung has simply generated its latest camera teaser video for the smartphone using AI. The clip is meant to demonstrate how well the Galaxy S26 Ultra can record at night, followed by the tagline "Can your phone do that?". Since virtually every modern smartphone can access AI apps, the answer is likely to be ‘yes’ in almost every case - an unfortunate choice of slogan for an AI-generated advert.
Samsung points out in small text in the promotional video that the video "was generated with the assistance of AI tools". However, the disclaimer is hardly necessary given the mediocre quality of the clip; the video shows very little detail, the hands and fruit look artificial, and the shadows and movements also appear unnatural. Even compared to other AI-generated videos, Samsung cannot match the quality standards of its competitors.
AI-generated teaser videos can be useful for promoting AI features, but choosing this tool for a camera teaser seems misplaced. Even if the camera hardware is said to be virtually unchanged compared to the Galaxy S25 Ultra, a sample video recorded with the Galaxy S26 Ultra would be far more informative.
