Ryzen 9 9955HX makes the XMG Apex 17 the CPU benchmark leader
The XMG Apex 17 impresses not only with its GeForce RTX 5060, but especially with its processor. Instead of using Intel Core Ultra or Ryzen AI chips, XMG opted for the AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX — and it turns out to be the fastest CPU we’ve seen in any RTX 5060 or RTX 5070 laptop tested to date.
Cinebench loop shows exceptional and consistent multi-core performance
The graph from our 30-minute Cinebench R15 loop makes it clear that the Apex 17 sits at the very top of the charts. Its CPU performance is not only extremely high, but also remarkably consistent over time — and higher than any other RTX 5060 or RTX 5070 laptop in our database.

Additional CPU benchmarks confirm this result. The Ryzen 9 9955HX in the Apex 17 is currently the most powerful processor we’ve tested in any RTX 5060 or RTX 5070 laptop. Depending on the game, this CPU advantage can also translate into better gaming performance.
In our gaming benchmarks, the Apex benefits significantly from its strong results in CPU-limited titles such as DOTA 2 Reborn and X-Plane 11.11. As a result, it even surpasses several RTX 5070 laptops in our overall gaming score.

Ryzen 9 9955HX otherwise only found in much more expensive RTX 5070 Ti laptops
None of the other RTX 5060 or RTX 5070 laptops in our test database use this processor. So far, the AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX only appears in higher-tier RTX 5070 Ti systems, including the Apex 16 Max from the same manufacturer, as well as the Chuwi Gamebook and MSI Vector A18 HX.
The MSI Vector A18 HX is also the first laptop in our Cinebench loop to outperform the Apex 17 in multi-core performance.

Conclusion – Why the high-end CPU gives the Apex 17 a unique performance profile
There’s a clear reason why most manufacturers avoid pairing RTX 5060 or RTX 5070 GPUs with the Ryzen 9 9955HX: the high-end processor significantly increases overall system cost. As a result, the Apex 17 is more expensive than many buyers might expect from an RTX 5060 gaming laptop.
At the same time, this CPU gives the XMG Apex 17 a unique advantage. No other RTX 5060 or RTX 5070 laptop currently offers comparable CPU performance. Depending on the workload or game, the Apex 17 can even match or outperform some RTX 5070 laptops in gaming performance (DOTA 2 Reborn, X-Plane 11.11).
