Schenker XMG Apex 15 Max: Gaming laptop with Ryzen 9 5900X
While the Schenker XMG Apex 15 Max is considered primarily a gaming laptop, it also targets the workstation and DTR area. Inside the laptop is a socketed desktop CPU that can be replaced, if necessary. This is accompanied by a powerful laptop GPU. There is no integrated GPU. The laptop is designed to be able to deliver a constant, high performance.
The combination of a Ryzen 9-5900X CPU, GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU, and 32 GB of working memory in dual-channel mode brings all the current games smoothly to the display at full resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) and maximum quality settings. A lightning-fast PCIe 4 SSD (1 TB) ensures short load times. There is also space for additional storage media (1x PCIe 3, 1x 2.5 inch). Another positive is the maintenance flap, which gives quick access to the inside components.
While the laptop warms up noticeably, it doesn't get excessively hot. The noise development is at the usual level for the device class, that is to say, it gets loud. This is accompanied by a lousy battery life and huge power consumption during idle operation. The matte display (FHD, IPS, 240 Hz) offers stable viewing angles and scores with its response times, contrast, and color reproduction, but the maximum brightness turns out too low.
The laptop can be configured individually in the Schenker online shop and is available starting from about 1400 Euros (~$1481). Our test configuration has a price of about 2300 Euros (~$2433).
