After Nvidia did not launch any new graphics cards at this year's CES, the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti with 12 GB VRAM remains the best option for gamers in terms of price-performance ratio and upcoming VRAM demands. Corresponding laptops were already pretty expensive in 2025 and considering the current memory price spikes, prices will certainly not go down in 2026. If you are looking for an affordable option with the RTX 5070 Ti, you will definitely find the Apex 16 Max from the German manufacturer XMG.
XMG combines the fastest version of the RTX 5070 Ti (140W) with a powerful HX processor from AMD. The base model is equipped with the Ryzen 9 8945HX (Zen 4), but you can also get the Ryzen 9 9955HX (Zen 5) for additional €170. Our review unit was equipped with the 9955HX and the gaming performance is very good, but the 8945HX is also still a good option if you want to save some money. The base price of €2,100 also includes 32 GB RAM, which is sufficient for gaming.
In terms of display, you can choose between an IPS screen (2560 x 1600 pixels) with 300 Hz, 500 nits brightness and full P3 color gamut, or a Mini-LED screen for €175. The Mini-LED option with its higher brightness (up to 1,000 nits HDR) makes sense if you like HDR gaming. But if not, you will be very happy with the good IPS panel, which also manages longer battery runtimes.
There are some aspects where XMG saves a bit of money, like the base unit that is made of plastic (but it does not really affect the stability) and the features are limited (no Wi-Fi 7, no USB 4.0). Advanced Optimus is not available, either, but you get a MUX switch if you want to deactivate the iGPU. We do not think these limitations are very important for gaming, though, and we would definitely accept these compromises in favor of the RTX 5070 Ti.
All in all, the XMG Apex 16 Max is a very good gaming laptop for a fair price. Please see our comprehensive review for more information.
