Lenovo showcased innovative Magic Bay accessories at CES 2024, and last year several mobile monitors for the interface were announced. The Magic Bay HUD, a small secondary display for widgets that sits above the screen of a compatible laptop, is indeed slated for release, but there are hardly any laptops and accessory products available that support the system.
This is set to change in 2026, as Lenovo has confirmed that third-party manufacturers will be allowed to offer accessories for Lenovo Magic Bay. While the new ThinkBook 14+ and ThinkBook 16+ support the standard, Lenovo currently offers too few laptops with Magic Bay to create an attractive market for accessory manufacturers.
This move suggests that Lenovo will make greater use of this feature in the future, meaning the Magic Bay will be found in more and more Lenovo laptops in the coming months and years. According to Lenovo, new ThinkBooks with Magic Bay will be released this year. Technically speaking, the Lenovo Magic Bay consists of a series of magnets and metallic contacts that attach to the back of a laptop display.
These pins can transmit both data and power. This makes it possible, among other things, to connect a 5G modem, a compact SSD or a second display to a laptop without having to plug in a single cable. Lenovo has also showcased unusual accessories, such as a fan or an air freshener. The magnets eliminate the need for unsightly clips.
