ASRock issues much-needed response to widespread AMD Ryzen 9000 CPU damage

ASRock has responded to the community outcry regarding AMD Ryzen 9000 CPUs burning up in its motherboards, although no clear instructions were given to customers regarding how to prevent the same. The company had previously issued BIOS updates, but the problem continues to persist.

It is not often that large tech companies take user complaints very seriously, unless the outcry reaches astronomical scales. After two weeks of silence following Asus responding to AM5 CPU failures, ASRock has finally revealed its statements on the matter as well. For context, the company had previously blamed the failures on faulty settings and released BIOS updates.

This is a known issue, and has been reported multiple times in plenty of forums. Basically, it appears that certain Ryzen 9000 CPUs get so hot, that they end up leaving actual signs of heat damage on the socket as well as the sensitive side of the CPU. This does not mean that Ryzen 9000 chips are inherently flawed in any way - Puget Systems' annual report lauded the Ryzen 9000 series for having one of the lowest failure rates.

Even after the aforementioned BIOS updates, the issue continues popping up every now and then. Similar to Asus' response to the situation, ASRock did not cite any specific technical reasons, and only stated that they are looking into the issue and exploring possibilities, while encouraging affected users to reach out to their official support team. The company's official response can be found below:

ASRock is closely monitoring recent discussions regarding the performance and behavior of AMD Ryzen™ 9000 series processors on ASRock AMD platforms. In response to these reports, we have implemented comprehensive internal reviews and rigorous verification processes. We have been working in seamless coordination with AMD continuously to further validate system performance across a wide range of hardware configurations, while optimizing BIOS and enhancing overall system stability.

ASRock deeply values user feedback as a cornerstone of our continuous improvement. Customers experiencing technical difficulties or seeking further assistance are encouraged to contact the ASRock Technical Support Department. We remain committed to delivering high-performance products that meet the highest standards of quality and performance.

As pointed out by VideoCardz, there are over 260 cases of the pricey Ryzen 9000 chips - including X3D ones -  dying in ASRock motherboards. While it may appear to be a small fraction of the total number of such systems in circulation, the number is still high enough to be considered a major issue plaguing the platform.
