Does it have to be an expensive brand-name power station? Or would a cheaper model from a no-name manufacturer suffice? We put the Aferiy P280, currently on sale for less than $700, to the test.

There are now numerous power stations on the market. They come not only from well-known market leaders such as Anker Solix, Bluetti or EcoFlow, but also from lesser-known names vying for customers. One such example is Aferiy, whose powerful 2 kWh P280 power station we recently put to the test.

The Aferiy P280 is currently available for just $689, down over $400 from the RRP of $1099. Compared to well-known competitors, this is a rather attractive price for a solar generator with the P280's performance specifications.

But is it worth buying? In our review, the Aferiy P280 scores well in many areas. The power station with 2,048 Wh provides up to 2,800 W via its 13 connections, including three AC sockets, but becomes clearly audible under full load. The efficiency of the AC output and charging via the mains is acceptable. In practical tests, we were able to extract around 77% of the charged energy on the go. In addition, there is a UPS function for uninterruptible power supply and a light that may be useful in certain scenarios, such as camping.

However, we did encounter one major problem during testing, something we haven't experienced with major manufacturers before. Remote control of the power station via the Aferiy iOS app simply wouldn't work. While the Android app did function, it didn't leave a convincing impression either.

Aspects such as durability and reliability are difficult to address in short-term tests. Nevertheless, the Aferiy P280 gives the impression of being solidly built and uses long-lasting LFP battery cells. Lastly, the manufacturer offers a 7-year warranty.
