One of the best mid-range camera phones thanks to 200MP? Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus vs Galaxy S25 Ultra

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus has a few interesting features that we discussed in our in-depth review. But what about photo quality? On paper, it offers a high-resolution main camera with a hefty 200MP. The 1/1.4-inch sensor comes from Samsung and is paired with a bright f/1.7 aperture. It also includes OIS, in-sensor cropping for lossless 2x zoom and an HDR mode for balanced exposure in both bright and dark areas of the image.
In direct comparison, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus now goes up against a Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. In order to see how noticeable the differences in camera quality are in everyday use and whether the price difference is that obvious, we take a closer look at different subjects and lighting conditions.
Affordable Android phone can take good photos
In daylight, both 200MP main cameras deliver sharp, well-balanced photos, even though the Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus looks a bit artificially over-sharpened in comparison. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra (from $1,049 on Amazon) produces better pictures, but the differences are not huge. In the basement photo, the drawbacks in terms of dynamic range were much more pronounced in our flagship comparison with the Xiaomi 17 Ultra than in this particular test.
Whether Xiaomi did a good job with its mid-range phone or Samsung really needs to improve the main camera quality on its flagship is certainly up for discussion. When it comes to night shots, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra shows a noticeably higher level of sharpness, as the Samsung phone uses shorter exposure times. As the light gets worse, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus loses detail. However, the lights are not blown out as much as on Samsung’s flagship.
