It’s no secret that Xiaomi is capable of developing high-quality smartphone camera systems. But in mid-range phones like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G, the budget is rather limited. How much can the Chinese manufacturer offer in this particular price range?
Details on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G is one of the best phones in the Redmi Note 15 series, which is positioned in the mid-range segment. In our extensive review, the phone impressed us with hardware that is pretty impressive in some regards.
But in terms of cameras, Xiaomi has made no changes compared to the predecessor. The main camera is still a Samsung Isocell HP3 sensor with a size of 1/1.4 inches and a resolution of 200 megapixels.
This setup allows Xiaomi to offer a zoom feature. However, this is simply based on cropping the high-resolution images that are produced by the sensor. Since this requires the full resolution of the sensor and the individual pixels are relatively small, good lighting conditions are required.
Photos taken on a winter hike
We took several photos with the main camera of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G during a recent winter walk.
The image of the spiral staircase looks pleasing, and the close-up of the rose hips is relatively rich in detail. In perfect outdoor lighting conditions, the camera performs well.
Xiaomi phone could have better dynamic range
Things become more difficult, as seen in the photo of the pigeons with the bright sky in the background. In this case, only a few details of the birds are visible as they mostly look like silhouettes. The dynamic range is simply not sufficient here.
In the shot of the hiking trail and the river, the tree with leaves looks oversharpened and overall sharpness is inaccurate.
Verdict on image quality
Overall, the camera of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G is appropriate for its price class. It does nothing exceptional, but in good lighting conditions it can take decent pictures.
More images and a more in-depth analysis of the Xiaomi smartphone’s cameras can be found in our upcoming in-depth review, which has already been published in the German original.
