BenQ has just expanded its MA series with two new models. The MA270UP and MA320UP are IPS panels that measure 27 and 31.5 inches diagonally, respectively, with both having a resolution of 3840 x 2160. Potential buyers should note, however, that these are not gaming monitors in view of the 60 Hz refresh rate and 5 ms gray-to-gray response time. Both models are advertised as both covering 99% of the sRGB color space, while these values drop to 95% and 97% for the DCI-P3 color space, respectively. The 'Nano Gloss' panel is supposed to replicate the look and feel of a high-quality glass panel and enable strong black tones.
One heavily advertised feature of these monitors in particular is BenQ's 'Colour Tuning Technology', which is intended to minimize color variations between a MacBook's internal display and an external monitor. However, these models are not specifically designed for prepress or particularly color-critical applications. The brightness of the monitors can be controlled using the MacBook keys, and BenQ Display Pilot 2 is a free software program for this purpose.
Ergonomic features are available, including height adjustment, tilt adjustment and 90-degree rotation for portrait mode (pivot). A USB-C port is on board, allowing compatible devices to be powered via USB PD with up to 90 watts. HDMI and DisplayPort connections are also available, as well as additional USB ports for connecting peripherals such as a mouse and keyboard.
