Asus is one of the leading names in the handheld gaming PC space. Currently, it has two devices — the ROG Ally and the ROG Ally X — on the market, and it appears to have a third on the way. However, what makes this new one special is that it is being developed in partnership with Xbox, and ahead of its release reported to be later this year, Asus has released an official teaser.
Posted on X by the official Asus ROG account, the teaser reveals the upcoming handheld will have a fresh look
which should mean a design that sets it apart from the ROG Ally and ROG Ally X.
While no technical specifications were disclosed, the video reveals it will have faster speeds
, more capacity
, and marathon stamina
which can be interpreted to mean a faster or more powerful processor, more storage, and better battery life respectively in comparison to its previous handhelds.
The teaser video also hints the device will be a fusion of the ROG Ally and the ROG Raikiri Pro controller (curr. available on Amazon for $109.99). Asus also shows a silhouette of the handheld at the end of the teaser video, and it seems to be black (or at least a dark hue) like the ROG Ally X.
While there's no mention of the software, the official Xbox account posted a response which has been taken to be confirmation that this is the handheld codenamed Project Kennan
which will carry the Xbox branding. There's no information yet of when the new handheld gaming PC will arrive, but with a teaser this early, the launch may be closer than we think.
