The Super Pocket NeoGeo is a new gaming handheld. Unsurprisingly, it's a model focused on Neo Geo and comes with 14 pre-installed games, including Metal Slug X, Fatal Fury Special, and Samurai Showdown. Compared to the number of titles available on other gaming handhelds that can play games from SD cards, this number might seem small.
However, there's a major difference here, as the video games pre-installed on the Super Pocket Neo Geo are officially licensed and fully legal from a copyright perspective. This isn't necessarily the case for all other gaming handhelds. That said, more games can be played since the handheld is compatible with Evercade cartridges. Over 60 cartridges are said to allow access to over 600 different titles, each cartridge costs around $20 and could even be described as a physical collector’s item.
The Super Pocket Neo Geo is a rather simple handheld console in terms of inputs. It doesn’t have analog sticks but sports a directional pad, four action buttons and four shoulder buttons. Moreover, it sports a relatively small 2.8-inch IPS screen with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. A 3.5-millimeter headphone jack is onboard, and the gaming system boasts a battery life of over four hours and can be charged fairly quickly. The MVS version is limited to 3,000 units and is now available for pre-order for €80, deliveries are expected to start in late-June. The standard version is priced at €60 but can't be ordered just yet.
