Gaming handhelds can be divided into two basic categories. For one, some of these mobile gaming devices aim to play current games via Windows or SteamOS, while others are primarily designed to play older retro titles. The upcoming GKD Little appears to fall into the second category, but details on the new handheld are still scarce.
However, a picture has surfaced on Discord and supposedly shows the upcoming GKD Little, which won’t reinvent handheld gaming. That said, there are some noteworthy features, such as the singular analog stick. The absence of a second stick means that modern 3D titles probably won’t be compatible. The image also shows a D-pad and four action buttons, shoulder buttons are also present.
Overall, the design doesn't just seem to focus on practicality. The GKD Little is said to have the same screen as the Ayaneo Pocket Ace. Therefore, it should measure 4.5 inches and sport a resolution of 1620 x 1080 pixels. This results in an aspect ratio of 3:2, which is far from perfect when emulating older console games that ran on televisions with an 4:3 aspect ratio.
Currently, the release date and price of the new GKD handheld is still up in the air. In fact, it's also possible that GKD will not pursue this particular project any further, or that the leaked picture is nothing but hot air. But while there’s no info on the processor and other technical specifications of the GKD Little, it will supposedly be able to emulate older console games up to the Sega Saturn and Dreamcast era.
