The Pocket Classic is one of two gaming handhelds that Retroid has launched today, the other being the Pocket Flip 2. In short, the latter will be more powerful than the former. However, the Pocket Classic is the first device to launch with the Snapdragon G1 Gen 2, which Qualcomm announced today alongside more powerful Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 and Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 chipsets.
Specifics about the Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 are thin on the ground for now. During the chipset's official announcement, Qualcomm only confirmed the inclusion of two P-cores, six E-cores and an Adreno A12 GPU. Based on pre-release rumours, the Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 should be slightly more powerful than the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, which would put the Pocket Classic ahead of the Anbernic RG406V (curr. $209.99 on Amazon) in terms of performance.
Nonetheless, it is unclear at this stage whether Qualcomm's new chipset will do the Pocket Classic's 6-button variant justice in terms of Sega Saturn emulation. Elsewhere, the Pocket Classic comes with a 3.92-inch AMOLED display that resolves at 1,240 x 1,080 pixels and a 5,000 mAh battery that offers 27 W wired charging.
The Pocket Classic starts at $119 with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage in Classic 6 and Retro variants. Alternatively, Retroid offers the handheld with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage for $129 in the same variants plus Berry, Atomic Purple, Teal, Kiwi and PKM Yellow finishes. Initially, Retroid is offering stackable CLASSICSAVE5 and MINISAVE10 coupon codes worth $5 and $10 apiece. Please note that the latter is only available for those who have previously purchased a Pocket Mini. Retroid will begin shipping Pocket Classic pre-orders from mid-April onwards.
