Last week, we reported that Retroid had outlined a plan to resolve ongoing display issues which have been affecting the Pocket Mini. To recap, the company stated that those concerned could email their support team to find a resolution. Since then, there have been several developments, many of which are rather unsavoury.
Initially, reports emerged that Retroid was denying return requests, despite its previous messages of assurance. Following that, the company clarified that only 200 units would be eligible for return, despite every Pocket Mini unit suffering from the same inability to properly render CRT shaders. Please note that this issue only affects the Pocket Mini, not the Pocket 5 or the older Pocket 4 and Pocket 4 Pro (curr. $199 on Amazon).
As Retro Game Corps' video above goes into greater detail, Retroid's western-facing social media representative was then doxxed by owners unhappy with Retroid's response. Following his resignation, Retroid has provided a lengthy update for the Pocket Mini going forward.
For example, all current Pocket Mini owners are now eligible for a $10 refund if they are happy with keeping their devices. Alternatively, the prior 200-unit returns limit appears to have been removed, should you find a $10 refund unsatisfactory. Retroid has also announced that it is working to deliver a Pocket Mini hardware revision with a drop-in display replacement. While this revision will not be ready for a year or so, existing Pocket Mini owners will be eligible for a discount on the new display hardware itself. Please see the statement below for more details.
