The Pocket Flip 2 now has a full release date, just like the Pocket Classic that we have covered separately. To recap, Retroid first showcased the Pocket Flip 2 almost a month ago and shortly after rumours about the device emerged online.
Now, it has revealed that fans have less than a week to wait until pre-orders for the clamshell gaming handheld open. As the image below shows, the Pocket Flip 2 will go on sale from March 17 in some markets and March 18 in others. Specifically, Retroid will begin accepting pre-orders at 01:30 UTC on March 18.
The Pocket Flip 2 will start at $189 with a MediaTek Dimensity 1100 chipset, 8 GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 128 GB of UFS 3.1 flash storage. Alternatively, the device will come in a Snapdragon 865 variant for $219 with the same memory combination, including Retroid's $10 launch discount. For reference, the Snapdragon 865 outperforms the Dimensity 1100 by about 30% in our benchmarks.
The Snapdragon 865 should allow the Pocket Flip 2 to get close to the performance of the more expensive Ayn Odin2 (curr. $449 on Amazon) when emulating PS2 and Wii games, among others. Both variants of the Pocket Flip 2 will ship with the same 5.5-inch AMOLED display plus a 5,000 mAh battery. However, the Dimensity 1100 model makes do with slower wired charging but a slightly newer Bluetooth version than its Snapdragon 865 counterpart.
