Retroid is arguably one of the better-known manufacturers in the retro handheld segment and has now announced a new system while teasing a second one. Announcement is a rather flexible term in this case, because the manufacturer has only released a single picture that clearly shows a successor to the Retroid Pocket Flip as well as another new gaming handheld.
However, one of these new systems only be seen partially in the cropped picture embedded below. More details are discernible after adjusting the brightness and contrast of the teaser image. The new gaming handheld will apparently feature a D-pad, and there is a visible edge under the display. This could indicate a sliding or folding mechanism, the latter of which is also found on other handheld consoles such as the RG35XXSP.
On the other hand, the second new Retroid handheld has been shown in all of its glory. It’s a foldable handheld that looks quite similar to the Nintendo DS. The device has two analog sticks that are colored in gray and yellow. The housing of the handheld itself is colored in purple, which is a color scheme that is very reminiscent of the Nintendo GameCube.
Furthermore, the alleged Pocket Flip 2 sports a D-pad and there are two clearly visible speakers at the bottom. The company has not revealed a release date, price or technical specifications. That said, both handhelds are expected to hit the market this spring. For reference, the original Retroid Pocket Flip was launched in 2023 at an MSRP of $149.
