The gaming handheld market is awash with options these days. While Anbernic is the primary source for frequent gaming handheld releases, Powkiddy and others also tend to introduce several gaming handhelds annually.
By contrast, Retroid has reduced its annual output to a handful of new products. For example, the company only launched the Pocket 5 and Pocket Mini in 2024 as successors of sorts to the Pocket 4 and Pocket 4 Pro that arrived practically a year earlier.
According to Joey's Retro Handhelds, a successor to the Retroid Pocket Flip remains in development, which the YouTuber refers to as the Pocket Flip 2. Specifications for the rumoured device are unknown for now, as is how Retroid will distinguish the Pocket Flip 2 from its predecessor.
Nonetheless, the presence of a Unisoc Tiger T618 chipset in the original Pocket Flip suggests that a successor will be more powerful than clamshell contemporaries like the Miyoo Flip or the Anbernic RG35XX SP (curr. $76.99 on Amazon). The same will be true of the upcoming RG34XX SP, whose performance is expected to fall in between the Rockchip RK3566 and Unisoc Tiger T618.
