Retroid Pocket Flip: Launch date, pricing and specifications confirmed for new retro gaming handheld
Retroid has confirmed launch details and pricing for the Pocket Flip, a retro gaming handheld that it unveiled earlier this week. Initially, the company revealed basic specifications and colourways, with no word on a release date or pricing. Now, Retroid has outlined both and has provided a full specification sheet to boot.
As the image below shows, the Retroid Pocket Flip has a 4.7-inch display that resolves at 750 x 1,334 pixels with a 450-nit peak brightness. Additionally, the 139 x 82 x 25.4 mm and 270 g device relies on the Unisoc Tiger T618, a 12 nm SoC with two ARM Cortex-A75 CPU cores, six Cortex-A55 CPU cores and a Mali-G52 MC2 GPU. Moreover, the device has 4 GB of LPDDR4X RAM, 128 GB of expandable storage and a 5,000 mAh battery.
In short, the Retroid Pocket Flip is a Retroid Pocket 3 Plus with a clamshell form factor. As Cary Golomb theorises, the Retroid Pocket Flip is actively cooled and may be more comfortable than the Retroid Pocket 3 Plus, although the Unisoc Tiger T618 is unlikely to benefit from the former. Retroid will start selling the Pocket Flip on March 22 and will be available for between US$149 and US$154, depending on the model chosen. Shipment dates remain unknown at this stage, but we imagine Retroid will reveal these details on March 22.
