Retro Handhelds has shed light on another new Powkiddy gaming handheld. To recap, the company opened pre-orders for the V20 last month. Mirroring Anbernic last year, the V20 arrived roughly six weeks after Powkiddy released the X35H globally too (curr. $86.99 on Amazon).
According to Retro Handhelds, Powkiddy also has a new version of the V90 up its sleeve. For now, the device is being referred to as the V90 V2, V90 2.0 or simply the 'V90 Refresh'. However, the fact that the original V90 is now almost five years old suggests that Powkiddy will give it a new name rather than just the V90 Refresh.
Either way, Jdewitz stresses that the design and colours shown 'are not final'. As such, we would recommend treating these renders as they are described for now, 'very much work in progress'. Nonetheless, they offer a few insights into how Powkiddy's next clamshell handheld could differ from the original V90.
For instance, Pokwiddy has updated its button and speaker layout between generations. Also, the new V90 has slimmer plastic outer bezels, which indicates a switch from a 3.0-inch to a 3.5-inch display to match Anbernic's RG35XX SP and Miyoo Flip. Unfortunately, other details are unknown for now, although it looks like Powkiddy may return to the Rockchip RK3566 for the device's chipset.
